Workshop for potential music: improv for everyone

"There are sounds in the air like fish in the water. When the water is clear, you might see the fish." -Pauline Oliveros

Let's listen and sound together! Originally planned for an early 2020 launch, WoPoMu was put on hold for pandemic reasons, but we're still here and excited to try a virtual format via zoom (link and password will be provided to those RSVP'd to the workshop through this event page, or email spiderwebsalon@gmail.com to sign up).

Organized by the amazing Sarah Ruth, this workshop is free and open to all curious and respectful individuals. Participants need not have any prior musical experience, beginners and experts alike are all welcome. We will be exploring listening and improvising through various exercises and will have the occasional guest leader/conductor. The goal will be to cultivate a supportive environment to explore listening as a community, music making, and risk taking.

We will end the workshop by performing a simple 10 minute piece conducted and composed by Sarah Ruth entitled "Improvised Magic Ensemble" in which participants perform 5 gestures (a gesture can be an event, motif of music, movement phrase, etc.). We will be recording the ensemble portion. You may participate or simply observe and listen. If you have any questions or would like to submit an exercise for future workshops, please let Sarah Ruth know!
